If you read the tale of my 2007 Iron Butt Rally ride you can get a good idea of my riding history.  Here is 'the rest of the story'.

I'm the Health and Safety Manager at two Oracle Packaging plants in Winston-Salem, NC.  Actually that covers two jobs.  I am the 'Safety Man' and try my best to keep our folks from getting hurt and I am the Chief of the Oracle Packaging Fire Brigade which is an in-house fire department.

One plant makes and prints labels, package lidding and packaging for a variety of products and the other melts large aluminum ingots and turns this into aluminum foil as thin as 0.00025".  This is a fascinating facility full of molten metal, massive rolling mills and 30 Ton capacity overhead cranes.

We had a mishap in February 2007 and had a 46,700 square foot building at the aluminum facility explode.  Not one person was hurt and we were back in production in September of that same year.  This was in the spring and summer leading up to the '07 Iron Butt Rally.  Talk about a slight distraction.

Prior to being the Safety Man I somehow spent eleven years as a "roll grinder" which involves precision grinding the massive steel rolls used to make aluminum foil.

I've puttered around with electrical equipment since I was ten years old, have a degree in Electromechanical systems and spent many years as an industrial electrician.  I also spent a bit over a decade working in radio as a disc jockey and talk show host.

Through  most of this I've been a volunteer fireman with Vienna Volunteer Fire Department in Pfafftown, NC for 30 years and an Emergency Medical Technician for 29.  In my younger days the R60 was the only form of transportation I owned and had rotating and strobing emergency lighting on it.  I carried all of my turnout gear and medical equipment on the bike with little room for anything else.
